The Plan

On digital reconstruction of genres in general

On Neo-Latin drama

Croatian school drama

From repertoire to XML, with examples

Conclusions

today the book is already, as the present mode of scholarly production demonstrates, an outdated mediation between two different filing systems. For everything that matters is to be found in the card box of the researcher who wrote it, and the scholar studying it assimilates it into his own card index.

Reconstruction

Producing precisely citeable segments that can be manipulated by digital methods;
anybody interested can and may manipulate the reconstruction, not only querying and exploring it, but also reordering, adding, selecting.
When the reconstruction is published under an open license, we are allowed, even invited to do so.

Discussion becomes possible.

Drama as a research problem

The Neo-Latin drama as a European genre

Neo-Latin drama in Croatia?

Compared to other literary genres, drama in the Latin literature of Croatia did not achieve a high literary level, and, what is more, very few texts have been preserved. Though the Latin language was carefully nurtured in Croatia through many centuries it could not penetrate into wider circles, and Latin drama could not expect to have large audiences. However, mention should be made of the fact that in Jesuit colleges students performed plays in Latin on biblical and historical themes with a pedagogical and moralistic object. The small number of the preserved school plays, as well as the titles and contents of these that have not been preserved, suggest that their literary standard was not very high.
