Bibliography of digital editions of Croatian Latin

There are two groups of digital editions. Some are digital facsimiles, images of old manuscripts or books, sometimes accompanied by OCR, sometimes not (e. g. the editions found in the Digital Collections of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, in the Internet Archive, or in the Hathi Trust Digital Library). On the other hand, there are editions of encoded text, sometimes supported by digital images, sometimes not. CroALa clearly falls into the second group.

Texts in CroALa are encoded according to the TEI XML schema and guidelines, and each text is accompanied by its own TEI header, a "thorough documentation of the text itself, its source, its encoding, and its revisions".

Here we will describe how we used the TEI header of CroALa texts to produce bibliographic records which are then included in the CroALaBib database (which is itself encoded as TEI XML), connecting, where possible, with records on authors and works. The description will also serve as an entry point to this secondary catalog of CroALa texts -- secondary to the one produced by Philologic, through which CroALa is currently made accessible and searchable over the internet.

Finally, we will show how we used the same tools and scripts to describe texts in LatTy, a digital collection of Latin texts from Tyrol and about it.

From TEI header to bibliographic record

To produce a TEI XML bibliographic record from the TEI header for all 458 documents currently in CroALa, we use an XQuery script. It transforms data from the TEI header of each CroALa file into a record such as this:
